Kristy Rusher – Director
As a kid I loved… I grew up in Lower Hutt and there was always a friend to go to the park with or a good book to read. My interest in reading led me to study law at the University of Otago. While I was there I fell in love with the bush, tramping, photography and outdoor adventures. After my law degree I stayed at university to complete two masters degrees then later on I completed a short programme at Harvard Law School.
Do you have a favourite pet..? I am lucky to be cat sitting a very relaxed Manx cat. I love to spend time with my friends’ dogs on beach walks. I can’t admit to having a favourite as I would get into trouble!
I am passionate about… Retirement being a new way to live – not a managed retreat from life. One of the things I enjoy the most is getting to know clients from the moment they contact us. We laugh a lot together even though we are dealing with some pretty tough stuff.
I strive to deliver excellent legal service because it gives our clients the freedom to do what is most important to them. When everything is taken care of, even the unexpected is manageable
The world would be a better place with more… connection, laughter & coffee (in that order)!
I’ve discovered some great local coffee roasts to complement my collection of Mint Roastery’s grind. Although they are based in Southland, I can’t live without it, so there is a fairly regular courier supply run to Nelson!
On weekends you’ll find me… kicking off my office shoes and kicking my snorkel around the coastline. If it’s not a great day for being in the water, then I’ll be out with my camera or on the couch with a good book. One day I will write my own book, but having fun with friends & going on adventures for the last twenty years has distracted me from that project, so who knows when I’ll get around to it!
I wish more people knew… how important it is to talk to their family and friends about how they want to be cared for once they can’t make decisions for themselves. It’s a difficult conversation to start, but it helps people around them understand their choices. I know a lot of people who regret putting off that conversation but I have never heard of anyone who regrets beginning it.
In ten years’ time… I will have been a lawyer for nearly 30 years. I’d like to stay fit and healthy so that I can continue to ensure the older community’s voice is heard.
